Miley Cyrus’ new image has certainly made an impact. This
year her music videos have shown her opting for a minimalistic style of
clothing (and by minimalistic I mean she dresses like a cheap prostitute). This
style combines black leather with studs and nothing more than underwear. Cyrus
commented “I don’t really dress as a teddy bear”. I have awarded her the
understatement of the year award for this quote.
Cyrus caused great controversy when she infamously appeared
at the VMA awards and completed a dance routine containing obscene amount of
tongue thrusting. The celeb says she is doing “her own thing”. Sure, partially
nude provocative dancing is not often seen at a major music awards ceremony so
I guess she scores points for originality.
However, I couldn’t help thinking her music videos needed to
be a little bit more imaginative. Cue her most popular video; Wrecking Ball.
Ever wanted to see a naked woman swing from a giant metal ball, lick DIY tools
and sing in one video? No? Me neither but she is evidently doing something
right as the video has been viewed over 400 million times on YouTube. Two
words; nudity sells.
The singer has defended herself by saying “It’s like ‘Has
anyone ever heard of rock ‘n’ roll?”. Yes Miley, we have, we just didn’t expect
to see a Disney star embrace the likes of sex and drugs so enthusiastically.
What’s next? Mickey mouse on weed? Minnie mouse in rehab? I’d like to oppose
Miley’s question with one of my own (continuing with her misuse of the word
“like”). “It’s like ‘Has anyone ever heard of, like, class?” Evidently not.
